A woman, surnamed Hu, spent 16,592 yuan ($2,673) on just WeChat, China's version of Twitter, in Saipan, an island in the western Pacific Ocean, during the three-day May Day holiday, China Central Television reported on May 8.
Hu did not receive any notification from the telecommunications company until she was back in China.
According to the telecom firm, the Internet fee, which is decided jointly by the company and the local operator, stands at 81.92 yuan per MB data in Saipan.
