Engineers began comprehensive testing and debugging of Beijing’s first maglev line, the S1, this week. The line, connecting Beijing's western district of Mentougou with Pingguoyuan in Shijingshan District, will stretch about ten kilometers and have eight stations. It uses levitation technology and linear motor drive systems to maintain an air gap between the train and the rail.
