 看英文新聞或文章時,常會對一些俚語習語不清楚。今天讀了篇CNN文章,文中出現了wrap one's head around 一詞,我們來看看它的意思是啥?


1.Even the clerk that was helping her launder the money.


就連接待員也在幫她洗錢了


在這裡指「洗黑錢(把來路可疑的錢弄得貌似合法)」


The gang laundered the steal money through their chain of restaurants.


這幫匪徒通過他們的連鎖飯店洗贓款。



2.If you were with me, you would have netted 3%


你要雇了我,就凈賺百分之三了


關鍵詞是net, 常用法是譯作「網」或形容詞「凈值的」,也可作為動詞「凈得,凈賺」


If you net a particular amount of money, you gain it as profit after all expenses have been paid.


Last year he netted a cool 3 million pounds by selling his holdings.


去年他通過出售自己持有的股份凈賺了整整300萬英鎊。

生意上會聽得較多的習語,get in on the ground floor, 指(因一開始就參加或入股而)獲得有利地位,及早入手,取得優勢地位,先下手為強


He got in on the ground floor when he bought a lot of stock in a new computer company.

他不失時機地及早買下一家新電腦公司的大量股票。

This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor with a potential client.

這是在潛在客戶面前獲得有利地位的機會。


4. You've got balls.


勇氣可嘉

典型的美式俚語got balls,指「有種,有膽量,有勇氣」

To work on this show you've got to have balls.


要參與這個節目的製作,你得夠大膽。

She's got balls, I'll say that for her.

我敢說她有膽量。


5.Let me wrap my head around this for a second.


我來理理思路


wrap sb's head around 並不是把某人的頭包起來,而是「認真考慮某事」


To comprehend something that one considers challenging or confusing.


I just can't wrap my head why she paid a great deal for the tiny handbag.

我真想不通為什麼她花那麼多錢去買那個小包。
