愛德華·埃斯特林·卡明斯（ Edward Estlin Cummings, 1894–1962）是美國詩人、作家。他擁有哈佛大學的文學碩士學位，第一次世界大戰期間，曾參加救護車隊在法國戰地工作，進過集中營，後把這段經歷寫進他的第一部小說《巨大的房間》。他共出版了13本詩集，當時在國內擁有眾多讀者，僅次於Robert Frost。本詩是卡梅隆·迪亞茨在電影《偷穿高跟鞋》中姐姐的婚禮上朗讀過，用以表達妹妹對姐姐的祝福和愛。詩原本表達的是失去摯愛後的堅貞與思念。情勢不同，但相通的是，愛讓生命延續。
